Most of Heritage Lace table clothes and table top lace  is machine made, however there are several terms that refer to how lace is made that might be helpful. 

• Knitted lace is so fine that it can be pulled through a wedding ring.
• Needle lace is made by using a needle and thread plus it's very flexible. The finest antique needle laces were made from fine thread that is not even around today. 
• Crocheted lace is characterized by separately crocheted motifs which are assembled into a mesh background.
• Cutwork lace is constructed by removing threads from a woven background and the remaining thread wrapped or filled with embroidery. 
• Knotted lace is made with a shuttle or a tatting needle.
• Bobbin lace is made with bobbins and a pillow. The bobbins turned from wood or plastic hold threads which are woven together and held in place with pins.
• Tape lace makes the tape in the lace and it is worked or uses a machine or hand made textile strip formed into the design. It is then joined and embellished with needle or bobbin lace.
