Reinvent Your Closet

Reinvent Your Closet

The latest greatest patent leather wedges are perfect for the work week and nights on the town. But chances are your shoe storage setup is not so chic and versatile.  Most of us, whether we have six pairs or 600, could use a mini closet makeover so we can find our foot wear faster.  Here is your guide to making that dream of a beautiful show closet a reality.

To get started purges shoes you have not worn for years.  Donate to charities. Throw away shoes that are beyond fixing.  One or tow pairs of heavy duty, paint splattered work shoes are plenty.  Get your shoes off the floor.  Keeping shoes on the floor is never good. You have to bend down to get them and put them away. They get knocked down easily because clothes are going in and out of there.  The whole closet quickly becomes a messy black hole.

Consider you shoe boxes.  Shoe boxes can be great organizers, especially if they have pictures of the shoes on the end. If the box doe not have an easy to see diagram, you can always take a photo of the shoes and tape it on the box.

Place shoes within easy reach. Buy inexpensive shoe stacker shelves to create multiple levels.  Some shoes are not good fits for the shoes stacker. You may want to place your dress shoes or work shoes together by color, and then put your casual shoes together.  Boots take up more than one space.  Flip flops do not warrant prime real estate in the close.  Put boots and flip flops in their own baskets or bins.

For small closets the shelf and shoe stacker method might not work. Use a combination of an over the door clear hanging back that holds a dozen pairs of shoes and bins for seasonal shoes such as snow shoes.
