How to Make a Ribbon Table Runner

This will make about a eleven and one forth inch wide runner and the length is adjustable.

Material Needed:

1. Fabric for background
2. 1-1/4 inch wide contrasting color ribbon (4 times the length of the runner)
3. 1-1/4 inch side contrasting color  ribbon of a different color (5 times the length of the runner)
4. 1/2 inch contrasting color ribbon for crosswise strips
5. 1/2 inch contrasting color ribbon for crosswise strips
6. Fusible interfacing, 12 inch wide and length of runner
7. Fray Check
8. Pins, Scissors, Iron
9. Sewing needle and thread

Easy to follow Steps:

1. Place wide plaid and wide solid color ribbons lengthwise on background. Start and end with a wide solid color ribbon, holding ribbons in place with pins until ironed.
2. Weave crosswise narrow strips, alternating colors of both narrow ribbons.
3. Iron all ribbons in place and finish ends.
4. Coordinate the color of flowers, and your table top decorations with your ribbon runner.

To make a table runner out of ribbon, you first need to measure the length of your table top, and then add 24 inches. From both background fabric and interfacing, cut a 12 inch wide piece by length needed. Place interfacing on top of background fabric before placing ribbons on.  Cut both wide ribbons into strips to fit length of runner.  Starting and ending with a wide solid color ribbon, place alternating solids color ribbons and wide plaid ribbons on top of interfacing.  Hold ribbons in place with pins until they are ironed in place later. 

Cut both narrow ribbons into crosswise strips. Weave all narrow strips into the longer ribbons. Trim excess fusible interfacing and then remove pins as you work. Iron all ribbons in place. If needed, trim ends of ribbons, then use Fray Check at the ribbon ends. Turn any excess background fabric to the wrong side and sew in place.
